Statement, last updated: 2024
Material and process play a central role in my artistic work. My approach to materials is therefore exploratory and playful at first, then specifies increasingly and becomes more and more concrete. I often consciously seek an unusual approach to material or technique, which is reconsidered or completely redeveloped in favor of my own finding of form. The emerging process is a result itself, that is made visible as such - I am not only concerned with the final form, but place equal significance on the approach that led to it.
My environment often serves as a starting point for my artistic work. I frequently engage with traces, found objects, or situations from everyday life. What captivates me is how these incidental, commonplace items tell a story without seeming orchestrated.
The themes and motifs in my work usually arise during the process through a deep exploration of the location, where I investigate the fractures and ambiguities in everyday life, bringing them to the forefront, dismantling them, altering their meaning, or connecting them to new contexts. Consequently, the collection of fragments or found objects as well as the intuitive generation of images through manipulation are essential components of my practice. Including research, observation and reflection.
